Our Professional Team of Caregivers Is Second to None

It takes talented and compassionate individuals to choose a career in senior living, and Friends House Retirement Community cultivates talent and compassion among all the staff and volunteers. Staff at our highly acclaimed Life Plan Community recognize and value the wealth of experience and wisdom our elders bring to the campus. In turn, Friends House recognizes the huge impact our team members have, not just our residents’ experiences but on the lives of their families and the community at large.

Working at Friends House is a rewarding experience that employees benefit from emotionally and mentally as well as financially. Here, residents’ lives are marked by opportunities for lifelong learning, social and cultural events, and meaningful contributions facilitated by resident-run committees and our dedicated staff. Friends House team members come to know residents and their families, and they become a vital part of an enriching community lifestyle. We have also introduced a Montessori Inspired Living program involving all our staff, residents, and resident families. Friends House has been awarded a Bronze Level facility credential from the Center for Applied Research in Dementia (CARD).

As a respected center of health and a trusted senior living resource for older adults around Montgomery County and beyond, Friends House is able to provide an excellent can [need to write this out] training program as well as exciting internship opportunities to students and volunteers. Additionally, our organization offers many chances for donations or mutually beneficial partnerships with local businesses and other nonprofit entities.

As you consider becoming involved in any capacity with Friends House – as a resident or family member, a funder, a staff member or volunteer, or as a partner and friend – we invite you to come in and tour our beautiful campus.

Employee Spotlight - Myra Romero

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Myra Romero

Since joining the Friends House team, Myra Romero has become a steady, thoughtful presence in our dining program. With 20 years of experience and a deep belief in service, Myra brings care and connection to every meal served as Dining Shift Coordinator.

“I ensure a quality dining experience for our dear guests,” she says. It shows in the way she greets residents and in the attention she gives to every detail behind the scenes.

Her favorite part of the job? “It warms my heart being able to provide a satisfying experience and a positive, lasting impression on our residents.” It’s a daily reminder of why she shows up with intention and heart.

Myra’s guiding thought – “Be the change you want to see in the world” – fits how she supports her team and serves our community. She also credits her late father, her personal hero, with modeling kindness, hard work, and service to others, values she carries into each shift. “I was taught at a young age the importance of serving your community in any way you can.”

What fulfills her most is building friendships and making a difference. “It’s the ability to impact a life in a positive way.”

She values how Friends House fosters inclusion and collaboration: “Friends House strives to respect all of our diversity and strengthen it with strong teamwork.” And what makes residents happiest? “There’s a lot of care, respect, and endearment amongst us all.”

Outside of work, Myra loves being outdoors from the mountains to the shorelines, and she enjoys gardening and caring for her chickens.
