Friends House Retirement Community is a non-profit serving low and middle-income seniors who help each other thrive in an engaged community. The community maintains special funds and sets priorities for charitable gifts. Donations encourage growth and improve services in the community. They help us respond nimbly to unforeseen needs, assist families to support their loved ones’ goals, and reach seniors who require aid in securing a stable and peaceful retirement with us.
Friends House is an established local nonprofit with a history in Sandy Spring. As a Quaker-founded community with strong values and ethics, we’re dedicated to providing residential and care services. Your donations help us keep residence affordable and the enrichment programs alive.
Low- to moderate-income seniors and families have traditionally been underserved by the mainstream senior living and retirement industry. Friends House seeks to close that gap while letting our already vibrant and giving community on campus with all the needed support.

The care my sister received was AWESOME! She had a terminal illness and was kept clean, up out of bed, dressed and socially engaged as long as possible. The CNAs, nurses, caretakers were kind and caring … I would recommend to anyone living in the area to consider Friends House.
This is without a doubt one of the finest facilities a person could ask for. They have everything you need to exist. The staff goes out of their way to accommodate you. The restaurant facilities are outstanding. And maintenance is always there when needed.
Our family has had a mom, two aunts, and now another aunt living at Friends House in different stages of care. This is an amazing place, and the care is exceptional.
Living very far away, it is so comforting to know that my mother has the high-quality care of their skilled nursing facility, as well as the support of the community. I love to visit and always make new friends amongst the residents. So many interesting, engaged elders.
The grounds are lovely (fruit orchards), and it has great apartment living for independent living Low key, casual laid back living in a great location.
Giving Back to Our Mothers, Fathers & Grandparents Is the Gift You Give Yourself
Friends House believes in fostering a generous community that gives freely and compassionately to our elders and those in need – whether that’s a volunteer with a gift of time or effort … or a local partner helping organize an event … or a resident or employee of Friends House. The town of Sandy Spring, Maryland, has always been a community that provides for neighbors and friends – and we seek to continue that tradition for Friends House seniors and others throughout Montgomery County.
